Dave Flies Solo in Adelaide, But the Toughest Holdens and Falcons Deliver the Horsepower!
Aussie Garage hit the road to South Australia for the annual Adelaide Auto Expo at the Jubilee Pavilion, bringing you a massive dose of Aussie muscle and street machine brilliance. With Dan and Phil off at the Antenna Awards in Melbourne, Dave flew the flag solo—but the cars on display more than made up for it!
From roaring arrivals outside to elite-level show builds inside, the Adelaide Auto Expo showcased everything we love about Australian car culture: tough, driven, and built to stand out.
Show-Stopping Builds and Deep-Dive Interviews
We kicked off the day outside, capturing the sound and fury as Holdens, Falcons, and hot rods rolled into the showgrounds. Once inside, the quality went through the roof!
Our solo mission allowed for some incredible one-on-one time with the owners of two truly exceptional builds:
Bo’s 500hp Original-Paint HX
Dave caught up with Bo to talk through his stunning, original-paint HX Holden running a formidable 355-cube engine combo putting out over 500 horsepower. This car perfectly balances a classic, untouched look with modern, serious grunt—a true definition of a tough street machine.
Peter’s Wild LSX Monaro Build
The show highlight was undoubtedly Peter’s nine-year labour of love: a jaw-dropping 1973 Holden Monaro powered by an LSX engine. Peter walked us through the extensive modifications, including:
- Custom widened quarters.
- A bespoke, high-end interior.
- Modern air ride suspension for that perfect stance.
- A setup designed for long-distance touring.
Muscle on Parade: Street Machines, Classics, and the Retro Van
Outside and inside the Pavilion, the diversity of Aussie car culture was on full display. We checked out some seriously cool iron:
- A tough red HQ Coupe rumbling through the grounds.
- An immaculate XM Falcon showing off classic Ford style.
- A super tidy VC Commodore with a surprising custom boot setup.
- A slammed Prem and a high-impact GTR Torana startup that absolutely shook the Jubilee Pavilion.
- The nostalgia factor was cranked up with a retro Dodge Ram van, complete with bubble windows, a disco ball, and period-correct details.
We also celebrated the impressive trophy haul for the car nicknamed “HTKO,” which rightly took home awards including Elite Best Body—a testament to the level of detail on display at the event.
If you appreciate the Holden vs Ford rivalry, love seeing classic street machines and modern performance builds that are actually driven, not just trailered, this full report from the Adelaide Auto Expo is a must-watch!
