Cars on the Green Albany 2026 was absolutely packed with classic Aussie muscle, rare Ford Falcons, Holden legends and custom builds from across Western Australia. In this episode of Aussie Garage TV, we make the five-hour road trip south of Perth to Albany, WA to check out one of the best classic car events in the southwest. With a massive swap meet, show and shine, and heaps of owner interviews, this event delivered non-stop automotive gold for anyone into classic cars, restorations, rare finds and proper Aussie car culture.
From the moment we rolled into the showgrounds, it was clear this wasn’t just another car meet. Rows of beautifully restored classics sat alongside survivor cars, patina builds and wild customs. The variety on display showed just how strong the classic car scene is in Western Australia, with everything from rare matching-numbers muscle cars to hand-built off-road tourers that have travelled thousands of kilometres across the country.
Rare Ford Falcons and Matching Numbers Aussie Muscle
One of the standout cars of the day was a rare XW GT Falcon showing just 43,000 original miles. With matching numbers, a 3.1 diff ratio and a fascinating backstory, this car is believed to possibly be an ex-police vehicle with unique delete options, making it an incredible piece of Australian motoring history. Seeing such a low-mileage GT Falcon in the flesh is rare enough, but hearing the owner talk through the car’s history and unique factory details made it even more special.
Alongside the XW GT was a stunning XA Hardtop running a 302 V8, turning heads with its clean presentation and classic muscle stance. We also checked out an original XK Falcon from October 1960 with just 40,000 miles on the clock, a true survivor that highlights just how well some of these early Australian Fords have been preserved. Adding to the Ford lineup was a beautifully restored 1965–66 Mustang 289, complete with hand controls, showing how classic car builds can be customised for accessibility while still keeping period-correct style.
Wild Custom Builds and Off-Road Rat Rod Tourers
One of the wildest builds at Cars on the Green Albany 2026 was a 1948 Ford F5 pickup that stopped just about everyone in their tracks. This isn’t your typical show truck – it’s a fully engineered, road-legal off-road rat rod tourer built to travel Australia. Running Ford Maverick underpinnings, a TD42 turbo diesel, coil spring suspension, dual winches, solar setup and a GQ Patrol dash, this beast has been driven around the country towing a 20-foot caravan. It’s the perfect example of Australian ingenuity, blending classic styling with hardcore touring capability and real-world usability.
Holden Legends, Panel Vans and Street Machines
The Holden lineup was just as impressive, with two genuine Sandman panel vans drawing crowds, along with a clean HK Premier, a tough LC Torana running a 355 stroker, Monaros, Kingswoods and a WB One Tonner. Modern Aussie muscle was also well represented, with XR8 utes and Boss 290-powered builds sitting alongside classic Holden and Ford street machines. Add in LandCruisers, GDS builds, Falcon utes and plenty more, and the diversity of vehicles on display made this one of the most well-rounded car shows in regional WA.
Swap Meet Finds and Owner Interviews
Cars on the Green isn’t just about the cars on display – the swap meet is a huge part of what makes this event special. From hard-to-find parts to nostalgic memorabilia, the swap meet is a goldmine for anyone building or restoring classic cars. We also spent time chatting with owners, hearing the stories behind their builds, the challenges they’ve faced restoring rare vehicles, and the journeys they’ve taken to keep these classics on the road. These personal stories are what really bring car culture to life and make events like this more than just a static show and shine.
