Here at Aussie Garage, we’re passionate about classic cars and the stories that drive them. Today, we bring you a special update on one of our most heartfelt projects — the restoration of Ross’s beloved HZ Holden Kingswood Station Wagon.
If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that this restoration has been a journey born out of tragedy. Ross’s pride and joy was stolen and maliciously torched, leaving nothing but memories and a charred shell. The vehicle was recovered several days later, but it was clear a complete rebuild would be the only way to bring it back to life.
That’s when the community stepped up — Melbourne-based businesses, including us at Aussie Garage, united to get Ross’s Holden back on the road.
From Ashes to Asphalt: The Rebuild
- Dandy Engines took charge of the heart of the beast. They completely rebuilt the engine from the ground up, ran it in, and now it’s prepped and ready for installation at M&G Motors.
- But before the engine could go back in, the body needed some serious attention. A donor car — similar to Ross’s original wagon — was sourced and sent to the talented crew at American Graffiti Body and Paint. They meticulously restored the body to factory specifications, just like when Ross first picked it up from Holden.
- Special thanks go to PPG for supplying the premium paint products that brought this classic’s factory finish back to life.
Gearbox, Diff & More – The Mechanics Take Over
Now that the bodywork is complete, M&G Motors are back on the tools. They’re rebuilding the gearbox and differential to ensure Ross’s Holden runs as good as it looks. Rare Spares have stepped in in a big way — supplying all the vital parts for the gearbox, diff, and much more. Their ongoing support has been instrumental in keeping this project on track.
Chrome, Shine, and Final Touches
No classic Holden would be complete without gleaming chrome, and that’s where Harkrome has come in. They’ve restored all the chrome and brightwork to perfection, and we can’t thank them enough for their time and effort.
As M&G Motors put the final pieces together, Rare Spares continue to support us with the remaining parts needed to get Ross’s Holden ready for its grand reveal.
A Team Effort – With Heart
We also want to shout out Splatts and the many other local businesses who have contributed to this labour of love. Every bit of support — big or small — has helped bring this restoration to life.
A special recognition goes to Alf, Ross’s son, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure sponsorships and coordinate with all involved. Well done, mate — this wouldn’t have happened without your dedication.
The Big Reveal is Coming Soon!
We’re nearly there. The Holden is close to completion, and we can’t wait to show you the results of this incredible community effort. Aussie Garage will be on-site to capture the full reveal, so stay tuned — this is one restoration you won’t want to miss.
From all of us at Aussie Garage, thank you to everyone who has helped make the #RossRestorationProject a reality.
