Carlo’s story is one many car lovers can relate to. Back in his 20s, he was the proud owner of a 1955 Chevy and an EH Holden. But like many young families, priorities shifted, and both cars were reluctantly sold to help buy his first home. Fast forward two decades, and that long-dormant car bug bit again—hard. Carlo reignited his passion by purchasing a 4-door 1955 Chev, and so began an epic nine-year rebuild that has to be seen to be believed.

A 2-Door Illusion & Hidden Engineering Brilliance

At first glance, the Chevy’s smooth lines and sleek black and silver two-tone paint job draw you in—but it’s what you don’t notice that sets this build apart.

Originally a 4-door, Carlo cleverly converted it into a 2-door using genuine coupe doors he scored in a deal. That required repositioning the pillars by 150mm—a job that was executed flawlessly, so much so that you’d think it rolled out of the factory that way.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Carlo engineered a custom front-end system that’s nothing short of genius. Wanting a flip front for easier engine access but not keen on ruining the factory gaps or cutting the guards, Carlo designed a slide-then-flip system. It allows the steel front end to slide forward first, clearing the doors, and then flip up on gas struts. Closed, it looks completely original. Open, it’s a show-stopper.

Power Meets Style

Under that custom bonnet lies a snarling supercharged 383ci engine that doesn’t just look the part—it sounds it too. Matched with a 4-link rear suspension, a beefy 9-inch diff, and massive rear tires, this Chevy means business on the street and on the show floor. Inside, it’s all comfort and class, with a modernised interior that still gives a nod to its heritage.

Carlo’s Mancave – A Tribute to a Lifelong Passion

Of course, no visit with Carlo would be complete without checking out his mancave—a personal museum of memories, achievements, and car culture. From trophy cabinets and model cars to vintage show posters, family photos, and artwork (including a piece we instantly recognised from a well-known artist), every inch tells a story.

From Father to Son: The EH Holden Legacy

Carlo’s love of cars kicked off early, heavily influenced by his father’s EH Holden. Naturally, when it came time for his first car, he followed in his dad’s footsteps and bought an EH of his own. Over the years, Carlo also owned a beautiful ’55 Chev – the kind of ride that stays in your memory forever.

Like many, life’s responsibilities called, and Carlo made the tough choice to part ways with his beloved vehicles to build a family home. Two decades rolled by, but the passion never faded. The itch returned, and Carlo was finally ready to get back into the garage.

First, he tracked down another ’55 Chev like the one from his youth and undertook a full rebuild – a machine with some incredible custom touches that we’ll reveal in an upcoming episode. But it didn’t stop there. Carlo wasn’t just rebuilding his collection – he was building a legacy.

He and his son set out to find an EH Holden for the next generation. They located a solid base and began a complete, hands-on restoration. Over the course of a year, the EH was transformed into a stunning custom ride, finished in a unique gold paint and sitting on classic B45 Simmons wheels. The interior was upgraded with modern seats and matching trim, and under the bonnet sits a trusty 202 straight-six mated to a Celica 5-speed transmission and Commodore diff.

This EH wasn’t just a showpiece – Carlo’s son drove it every day, cared for it, and took pride in what they built together. Now, nearly three decades on from its rebuild, the car has come out of a 10-year hibernation, and it’s back on the road. With Carlo’s grandson now in the picture, it’s easy to see how this EH tradition will continue. Good on ya, Carlo – this is what Aussie car culture is all about.

Enter the Beast: The 1956 Chev Pickup

As if the EH story wasn’t enough, Carlo’s garage has another showstopper – his 1956 Chev pickup. This thing is wild.

Under the hood is a blown 383ci Chev stroker, sporting a 6/71 supercharger and twin 4-barrel carbies. Backing it is a Turbo 400 gearbox and a Jaguar rear end, with a custom front end to modernise the handling. In Carlo’s words, “It drives like a modern car” – no small feat for a 1950s pickup.

It’s massively tubbed to fit a set of 11-inch wide wheels, giving it an aggressive, no-nonsense stance. The paint? Well, it’s a mystery – the truck was imported from the U.S. as-is, but it wears a deep, rich red with a bold flip that gleams in the sun. It’s got character, and a whole lot of grunt.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad – Rare, Blue, and Beautiful

First up, we’ve got Craig’s 1955 Chevrolet Nomad – and this isn’t just any Nomad. This wagon is rare in the States, let alone Australia. In fact, Craig reckons it’s the only ’55 Nomad in Western Australia, and we’re inclined to believe him.

Originally imported from LA back in 2008 by a friend of Craig’s, it changed hands and came into Craig’s garage in 2023. Built in the US and still running strong, it’s powered by a 350ci Chevy V8 paired with a Turbo 400 gearbox – a combo that delivers smooth cruising and plenty of grunt when you need it.

The car is finished in a mystery blue paint that absolutely pops in the sun – nobody’s sure of the exact shade, but it looks fantastic. The current wheels are on the larger side, but Craig’s got plans to swap them out for a more classic look to better match the car’s vintage lines. The chrome is immaculate, from those iconic bumpers to the trim pieces that really make the car sparkle.

Inside, the interior shows its age but remains in good condition. Everything’s there, so when it’s time for a retrim, Craig won’t be chasing parts – just refreshing what’s already a solid setup.

It’s not just Craig who loves this Nomad – his wife’s a big fan of ’55 Chevys too, so when this one came up, they didn’t hesitate. Now, it’s their go-to cruiser for events, weekend drives, and spontaneous lunch runs. According to Craig, “It’s like driving around in an armchair” – and honestly, what better way is there to see the sights?

1934 Ford Coupe – Hot Rod Vibes with Classic Soul

Next in the lineup is Craig’s 1934 Ford Coupe, an absolute gem with serious vintage attitude. Originally from Arizona, this coupe belonged to a retired marine before making its way across the Pacific. Craig picked it up in early 2023 from New South Wales and it’s been a staple in his collection ever since.

Under the bonnet is a flathead V8 paired with a 3-speed manual gearbox, delivering that raw, mechanical feel that hot rod enthusiasts crave. It’s also got a few subtle aftermarket touches, giving it a bit more personality without straying too far from its roots.

The paint might be showing its age – black with some surface cracking – but it still shines with character. Inside, the interior has been redone in a factory style, maintaining that classic vibe while freshening things up.

This coupe is mostly original Henry Ford steel, and while it wouldn’t take much to return it to full stock condition, Craig loves it just the way it is – a tasteful mix of classic lines and hot rod tweaks that’s perfect for weekend drives and car meets.
