Aussie Garage headed along to check out the event, which attracted close to its estimated 350-car capacity.

A Huge Variety of Cars

The event featured an impressive range of vehicles, including Holden Monaros, Toranas, Commodores and Statesmans, Ford Falcons and Mustangs, Chevrolet classics, Nissan GTRs, panel vans, hot rods and custom pickups.

There were also Porsche, Subaru, Volkswagen and Mazda MX-5 builds, giving visitors plenty of variety throughout the venue.

Rare HSV Walkinshaw Limousine

One of the biggest standouts was an extremely rare genuine HSV VL Walkinshaw limousine.

The unusual extended-body Walkinshaw attracted plenty of attention and was joined by several tough Holdens, turbo Falcons, detailed engine bays and beautifully presented classics.

Another unique vehicle was a Daimler Ferret military vehicle powered by a Rolls-Royce engine.

Interview with Bad Q Garage

In this episode, we sit down with Dave from @BadQGarage, who has been flat out covering car events all across WA. Between filming, editing, and attending shows, it’s impossible to get to everything – but he’s been doing an awesome job bringing the WA car scene to life on his channel.

Dave also gave us some updates on his car projects:

• Bad Q Holden Monaro GTS Coupe – his pride and joy.
• Bad J HJ Holden Premier Sedan – finished in metallic purple with bright yellow accents on the diff, fuel tank, and engine bay, giving it a “Violet Crumble” look.
• VN Holden Calais & VR Holden Commodore – recent additions to his growing collection, made easier thanks to his new car trailer (which might be enabling his addiction – but aren’t we all the same?).

Dave also spoke about his international car spotting, with fascinating finds in Thailand, including VL Holden Calais, HQ Holden Monaro GTS, and even a blown HQ Holden Sedan. His passion for researching the Holden legacy in Asia adds a unique perspective to his channel.

Aussie Garage Updates – VU for U Revival Project

On the Aussie Garage side, we’ve been busy with several projects, but the biggest one right now is the VU for U Revival. This is a VU Holden Commodore Ute that was originally a Street Machine Giveaway Car at Summernats 17 in 2004.

We’re reviving this iconic ute for its current owner, who is battling stage 4 terminal cancer. Our mission is to get the car running and driving so he can enjoy it one last time before it’s sold to help fund medical costs. If enough funds remain, he hopes to buy a steel bumper classic car to enjoy until he no longer can.

This project is deeply personal and a reminder to all of us: life is short – make the most of it, and always get regular check-ups if something doesn’t feel right.

A Piece of Street Machine History

Many of you will remember the VU Holden Commodore Ute that was famously given away at Summernats 17 in 2004. Known as VU For U, this Ute turned heads as a Street Machine giveaway car and has since changed hands a few times. For years, it’s been living here in WA – but now, it’s time to bring it back to its former glory.

The Reason Behind the Revival

This project carries a much deeper meaning. A close mate of ours – who’s also family – is currently battling Stage 4 terminal cancer. His dream is to enjoy life while he still can, and part of that dream is to one day own a HQ Holden Steel Bumper. To help make that possible, we’re fixing up the iconic VU For U so he can sell it and use the funds to chase his dream after medical costs and equipment have been purchased.

The Plan of Attack

We’ve gathered some fantastic friends and businesses to get this revival on the road:

• @BadQGarage – helping us transport the Ute and get it ready.
• AJ’s Mods – where all the mechanical issues will be sorted and a list of required parts put together.
• @autofxwa – where Des and the team will revive the paint, bring out the shine, and give the Ute a professional detail.

On Monday, the project officially kicks off at AJ’s Mods, where we’ll get the first look at what’s needed to get this classic running at its best. From there, we’ll be reaching out to the community and businesses across WA and Australia to help source the parts and keep costs low – every dollar saved means more peace of mind and enjoyment for our mate during this tough time.

What’s Next

Once the build is complete, Bad Q Garage will host a professional photo session to showcase this revived Street Machine. Kicking Off with the Smooth Cruise

The day started with the Smooth Cruise, featuring @BADQ and @bigmalsworld tearing up the track. Dave wasted no time, rolling into the Motorplex and heading straight into the cruise. Meanwhile, we caught up with Mal for a chat about his YouTube channel and the latest happenings in South Australia—especially as he made the big trek over to Western Australia for the event.

Elite Tent Unveilings & Interviews

Next up, we headed to the Elite Tent, where three standout cars were unveiled, and we had the chance to chat with their owners:

• Rusty’s 1951 Oldsmobile Holiday Deluxe Sedan – This stunning classic features its original interior, motor, and transmission, with only 70,000 miles on the clock. Having been tucked away since 1970, this rare American beauty is a true survivor.
• Jarred’s 1977 Holden Premier – Aussie Garage previously interviewed Jarred and his dad while they were still fine-tuning this full bolt restoration. Seeing it now, with all the final touches complete, was a testament to their hard work.
• Steven’s 2004 WK Holden Statesman – A last-minute build from Perth City Street Machine Club, Steven has put in a serious effort, even learning how to paint from an old pro. While the engine and drivetrain are still stock for now, changes are on the horizon.

Super Cruise Thrills

The day wrapped up in spectacular fashion with the Super Cruise, featuring Bad Q Garage and Distortion Media. Dave and his HQ Holden Monaro put on a show, lighting up the track multiple times and sliding around with pure enthusiasm.

This weekend, Langley Park in Perth City will come alive with the sights and sounds of the Tarmac West Celebration of Motorsport and Street Machines & Hot Rods event, a must-attend for motoring enthusiasts. The event promises a thrilling day showcasing classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods, and motorsport action. Whether you’re an entrant or a spectator, there’s plenty to look forward to.

For entrants, we’ve outlined the important details below to ensure your day runs smoothly.

Event Details for Entrants

• Date: Sunday, 15th September 2024
• Location: Langley Park, Perth City
• Entry Time: 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
• Exit Time: After 3:00 PM

All entrants should have received a Celebration of Motorsport/Street Machines & Hot Rods dash pass via email. This is essential for gaining entry to the event and for parking purposes. Please print the dash pass and ensure it is visible on the dashboard of each vehicle in your display, including support vehicles. The City of Perth Rangers will issue fines for illegal parking, so it is vital that you comply by having the dash pass displayed at all times.

If you’re part of a club entry, kindly distribute a copy of the dash pass to all your members to avoid any inconvenience. In addition, ensure all details you have provided are accurate. If you did not receive the three necessary attachments in your email, please contact the event organizer as soon as possible.

The three attachments you should have received are:

1. Your dash pass.
2. Langley Park exhibitors map with Legend.
3. Tarmac West map, showing how to get to the event and trailer parking areas.

For those needing printing services, some local public libraries offer mobile printing services, and several are open on Saturday mornings. This can be a convenient option for those needing last-minute printing.

Perth City Cruise for Hot Rods & Street Machines

A special highlight of the day is the Perth City Cruise for Hot Rods and Street Machines, limited to 100 cars. All online registered entrants with a road-registered vehicle are eligible to participate in this exciting cruise.

• City Cruise Line-Up: A call will be made at 11:00 AM over the loudspeaker for all cruise participants to line up. The first 100 cars in line will be allowed to take part in the cruise.
• Route: The cruise will follow a designated route through the city, with Tarmac Marshalls positioned on street corners to direct the vehicles.
• Important Note: Drivers are cautioned not to spin their wheels or engage in any unsafe driving behaviors during the cruise. Police will be patrolling, and anyone caught breaking these rules will have their vehicle removed from the event, which could result in the entire cruise being canceled.

This is a rare opportunity to cruise through Perth City, so let’s make it an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone.

Spectators Welcome

In addition to the races and cruise, there will be a fantastic display of classic cars, muscle cars, and hot rods. The variety of cars was incredible. We saw everything from HSVs and HDTs to Torana’s, Falcon coupes, Chargers, WB Utes and tonners, HQ GTS 2-doors, and even a couple of hot rods, among many others.

We managed to snag a few short interviews throughout the night. While we did our best, you’ll notice the footage gets a bit grainy as the sun went down—night shooting isn’t our strong suit just yet!

The highlight of the meet for us was getting to hang out with all of you in person. It was great to catch up face-to-face and check out your amazing rides up close. We had an absolute blast and appreciated all the feedback you gave us.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out—it really meant a lot that you took the time to join us. And for those who couldn’t make it, don’t worry—we’ll be back soon! Keep an eye out for our next event.
