Kim’s Fabrication primarily specializes in stainless steel kitchen and hospital builds, which serve as their main source of income. However, their love for hot rods, classic cars, and muscle cars remains at the forefront of their aspirations. Con was happy to give us an in-depth look at what Kim’s Fabrication does, highlighting their past and present automotive projects.

The shop played a significant role in both Bruce’s Plymouth Tudor Coupe and Carrington’s Valiant Charger resto mod projects (check out the links below for videos). Their latest undertaking, however, is a massive challenge—completing a 1964 EH Holden Sedan build under strict time constraints. The car, being built for an owner’s daughter, needs to be ready before her high school year ends. This ambitious build includes a 5.7L LS engine, full custom rails, floors, rear tubs, and a completely customized front end. While they’ve already made substantial progress, there’s still plenty to be done in a short timeframe.

Additionally, the team is also working on their own Kim’s Fabrication Shop Rod, which must be completed in time for Rocky Nats this year. This custom hot rod will serve both as a showcase for the shop’s craftsmanship and for future events. The stainless steel work done so far on this build is nothing short of stunning, especially the diamond-pattern tray at the back of the Hot Rod Ute.

Carrington originally purchased the Charger in 2006. At the time, it had been modified with a CL Valiant front end, but he has since restored it to its proper VJ Valiant Charger front. He enjoyed driving the car for about five to six years before a rear main seal issue forced it off the road. Rather than just fixing the problem, Carrington saw the opportunity for a full restoration and upgrade.

He decided to strip the car down, rebuild the engine, refresh the interior, and restore the exterior to its original Silver Mink color—moving away from the blue paint it had at the time. Now, as the Charger comes back together, it features a powerful new drivetrain, boasting a 340 small-block V8 Mopar engine paired with a Haltech EFI system for modern performance. To enhance the driving experience, Carrington has opted for a Tremec 5-speed transmission, a significant upgrade from the original 245 engine with a three-on-the-tree gearbox.

Most of the build has been completed at home with the help of mates, making this a true passion project. However, crucial elements such as the panel work and paint were entrusted to skilled professionals at Kim’s Fabrication and other workshops. Carrington is incredibly grateful for the support and expertise these businesses have provided.

For the interior, he is having it completely redone in black, featuring Tombstone seats while retaining the original dash face. His vision for the Charger leans towards a resto-mod style while maintaining a classic, factory-like external appearance.

Carrington is pushing hard to have the Charger finished this year, just in time for upcoming car events. We can’t wait to see this build completed and out on the road, turning heads wherever it goes.

Geoff had always dreamed of owning a 327 Bathurst Monaro but never thought he could afford one—until fate intervened. While working on a building site, he met a bloke who mentioned that his dad had a 327 Bathurst Monaro sitting in pieces in a shed. The car had been untouched for 16 years, and the owner had finally decided to move it on. Geoff seized the opportunity, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Restoration Begins

The first step was to send the Monaro in for bodywork. Through this process, Geoff met the painter’s grandparents, Tony and June, seasoned car builders with a lifetime of experience. Even in their 70s, they eagerly took on the challenge of reassembling the car once their grandson completed the panel and paint. Their attention to detail is evident in every inch of this immaculate restoration.

But the family involvement didn’t stop there. Tony and June’s son, Graham, played a key role as well. His impressive mancave, filled with Holden memorabilia, is a collector’s paradise—which we’ll be showcasing in an upcoming video. Beyond that, Graham has an extensive library of Holden service manuals and parts books. Whenever Tony needed to verify parts or assembly details, Graham would dive into his archives, making sure every aspect of the build was period-correct.

Factory Specs & Immaculate Detail

Geoff’s Monaro has been restored to factory specifications, staying true to how it originally rolled off the production line. While the car came with many parts, there were still some missing pieces that needed to be sourced. The team managed to track down plenty of old new stock (NOS) components, ensuring the restoration stayed as authentic as possible.

Under the hood, the original 327 V8 has been fully rebuilt, and the engine bay is finished to factory specs. The large fuel tank in the boot has also been meticulously restored—better than when it first left the factory.

Inside, the trim is flawless. The seats and door trims were sourced from Winner Products, with a local trimmer handling the seat cover installation. Tony and June then carefully fitted everything back together. The Monaro features the iconic tacho in the console, along with its original steering wheel and radio, adding to its period-correct authenticity.

A True Showstopper

The dedication and craftsmanship poured into this build are undeniable. Every person involved has put their heart and soul into restoring this Monaro to its former glory. The result? A masterpiece that has already taken home multiple trophies for Best Original Restoration at various car shows.

But the story isn’t over yet! Next, we’ll be diving into Graham’s incredible mancave, showcasing his vast collection of Holden memorabilia, including rare books published before the first Holden even rolled off the production line. You won’t want to miss it.
