The Northern Steel August Meet in Joondalup brought out an impressive mix of classic cars, Australian muscle and tough street machines.

Held at Bunnings Joondalup in Western Australia, the meet was packed with Holdens, Ford Falcons, Toranas, Monaros, panel vans, American muscle cars and custom builds.

Aussie Garage headed along to check out the action.

Holdens, Falcons and Australian Muscle

There was plenty to see for both Holden and Ford fans.

Highlights included HQ Monaros, Holden Toranas, XA–XC Falcon coupes, an XE Falcon, VH Commodore SL/E, VL Calais Turbo, EJ panel van, Holden Gemini and a wild supercharged XG Falcon.

A custom FJ Holden was another standout among the huge variety of classics and modified cars.

Knight Rider KITT Steals the Show

One of the most unusual cars of the night was an incredible Knight Rider KITT tribute car.

Based on the famous car from the Knight Rider television series, this KITT recreation featured a range of working functions that attracted plenty of attention throughout the night.

American muscle was also well represented, including a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustangs and other classic V8s.

Perth’s Northern Steel Car Meet

Cars continued rolling into Northern Steel throughout the evening, making for a great night of Perth classic cars, Australian muscle cars and steel-bumper classics.

The variety is what makes these meets so enjoyable. From original classics to heavily modified street machines, there was something for almost every motoring enthusiast.

This beautifully restored Holden LX Torana Hatchback has a story unlike most classic cars.

Owner Kim bought the Torana as a rusty wreck and started a complete restoration. But during the engineering and licensing process, he discovered something completely unexpected.

The Torana had been reported stolen in Victoria in 1984.

Thankfully, the original owner was found and the issue was resolved. Kim could then finish the restoration and get the Torana back on the road.

A Classic Holden With Modern Upgrades

Originally an SL with a 202 six-cylinder and automatic transmission, the Torana is now powered by a Holden 308 V8.

It’s backed by a BorgWarner T5 five-speed manual, making it a great old-school V8 cruiser.

Kim has also added several upgrades to make the car easier and more enjoyable to drive.

These include:

• Holden 308 V8
• T5 five-speed manual
• 17×10 rear and 17×8 front hotwire wheels
• BMW 3 Series power steering
• A9X-style front brakes
• Rear disc brakes
• VN Commodore differential
• Truetrac centre
• Air conditioning and heating
• Digital Speedhut gauges
• 2.5-inch stainless exhaust with X-pipe

The classic Torana SS-inspired styling keeps the car looking old-school, despite the modern improvements.

And Kim isn’t finished yet.

A 355 stroker V8 is planned for the future.

A Warning for Classic Car Buyers

The Torana’s unusual history also provides an important lesson.

If you’re buying a classic car or restoration project, always check the full chassis or VIN number before spending money on the build.

Kim discovered the Torana’s stolen history during the restoration. Fortunately, everything could be resolved, but it could have been a very different outcome.

Roll Racing Perth Round 60 Brings the Action

Roll Racing Perth Round 60 delivered another massive night of horsepower and close racing at Motormall Raceway on 16 May 2026.

From classic Aussie muscle cars to modern turbocharged street machines, the event showcased some of Western Australia’s toughest performance cars battling it out under lights.

The 1000HP JUICED EK

One of the standout cars of the night was the famous JUICED EK Holden ute. Packing around 1000 horsepower and a serious supercharged setup, this incredible build drew plenty of attention both on and off the track.

Aussie Garage caught up with the owner to learn more about the car and what it takes to build a machine of this calibre.

Tough Toranas and Turbo Power

Several stunning LH and LX Toranas hit the track throughout the night, proving why these classic Holdens remain favourites among Australian car enthusiasts.

One of the biggest highlights of All Australian Car Day 2026 was the massive range of classic Aussie muscle cars on display.

In this episode of Aussie Garage, we headed down to Armadale Auto Parts for the legendary Caffeine & Gasoline public holiday car meet, where the streets were completely packed with an incredible mix of Holdens, Falcons, Valiants, hot rods, American cruisers and rare classic builds.

If you love Aussie muscle cars, garage-built street machines and classic car culture, this meet is one of the best places in WA to see it all in one spot.

From immaculate restorations to tough street-driven builds, there was a huge variety of cars rolling through the event all morning, making it one of the biggest turnouts yet.

A Massive Turnout of Classic Cars and Street Machines

One of the things that makes Caffeine & Gasoline Armadale so popular is the incredible diversity of cars that show up. This event attracts enthusiasts from across Perth and surrounding regions, bringing everything from original classic cruisers to highly modified performance builds.

Walking around the meet we spotted some incredible machinery, including a tough Holden Torana SLR running a 400 Chev V8, a beautiful HK GTS Monaro, classic Chevy hot rods, old-school Falcons, rare Japanese classics and even a few unexpected gems.

The streets around Armadale Auto Parts were lined with vehicles from every era of car culture, creating an atmosphere that perfectly represents the passion behind the Australian car community.

Tough Holden Toranas and Aussie Muscle

A standout at the meet was a Holden Torana SLR fitted with a 400 Chev, giving it that unmistakable tough street machine presence. With its aggressive stance and race-inspired look, this Torana featured a large drop tank setup, giving it that classic drag racing and burnout car vibe.

Toranas have long been a favourite in the Aussie performance scene, and builds like this show exactly why they remain one of the most popular Aussie muscle cars on the road today.

We also spotted a stunning HK GTS Monaro, one of the most iconic classic Holdens ever produced. With its timeless styling and legendary reputation in Australian motorsport history, the HK Monaro continues to be one of the most desirable muscle cars in the country.

Hot Rods, Pickups and Garage-Built Projects

Beyond the classic Aussie muscle cars, there were also some incredible hot rods and custom pickups on display.

One standout build was a beautiful hot rod pickup that had been built entirely in a home garage, showcasing the dedication and craftsmanship that defines the hot rod community.

These kinds of builds represent the true spirit of garage-built car culture, where enthusiasts spend countless hours designing, fabricating and perfecting their projects.

The variety of hot rods at the event ranged from traditional old-school rods to modernised street machines, proving that the hot rod scene in Western Australia is still thriving.

From Street Cruiser to Twin Turbo Terror

Originally, Jeremy drove the Torana as it came for around six years, but eventually the itch to build something insane took over. The original engine and driveline are long gone, replaced by a twin-turbocharged L98 6-litre V8 that pumps out a jaw-dropping 1200HP at the wheels. It’s still running a standard crank, but has been upgraded with tough pistons and rods, all managed by a Holley ECU system (soon to be upgraded for more control).

It’s paired with a Turbo 400 transmission and a 9-inch diff – a combo built to handle the abuse. As Jeremy cheekily puts it, “it’s basically useless to drive, but heaps of fun!” Traction? Not much. Fun factor? Through the roof.

Built for Power and Strength

Handling all that power isn’t easy, so the Torana’s chassis has been extensively reinforced. A fully integrated roll cage has been installed to prevent body flex and twisting under load. The transmission tunnel has been replaced with a custom bead-rolled unit to suit the massive gearbox and get the motor sitting at the correct angle.

The stance is mean thanks to Simmons wheels – 18x11s on the rear and 18x8s on the front, wrapped in serious rubber. The bumpers, grille, and trim have all been blacked out, giving the car a tough, purposeful look that perfectly matches its attitude.

Race-Ready Interior with a Touch of Old-School

Inside, the cabin is pure race-spec with a hint of Aussie nostalgia. It’s fitted out with racing seats and harnesses, a ratchet shifter, Holley digital dash, and even a CO₂ boost control system. There’s also a rear venetian blind in the back window – because even when you’re packing 1200HP, style still matters.

Built Right – Engineered by the Best

What really stood out in Jeremy’s build is the quality and attention to detail. The fabrication work by Lurches Fabrications and Chronic Customs is next level. Everything has been thought through for performance, durability, and practicality – even down to easy spark plug access for quick maintenance. And the custom intercooler? It’s a work of art in its own right.

What’s Next?

This isn’t just a show car – Jeremy’s planning to hit the track, and we’re keen to catch up again when he does. Between the laughs, the engineering talk, and the sheer presence of this Torana, it was an awesome day filming.
