As part of our growing Aussie Garage Interviews series, this chat with Daniel gave us insight into his journey with Holden, his inspiration behind each build, and how Melbourne’s strong car culture continues to shape some of Australia’s toughest street and drag car combinations.

Holden Passion on Display

Daniel’s love for Holden runs deep, and it shows clearly in both builds. The Torana represents classic Aussie muscle car heritage — lightweight, aggressive, and built with performance firmly in mind. From the stance to the engine bay, every detail reflects a carefully planned custom build, blending old-school style with modern performance thinking.

Alongside the Torana sits Daniel’s VL Commodore, another iconic platform in Australian car culture. Known for its strength and drag racing potential, the VL has been developed with power, reliability, and straight-line performance as key priorities. This build highlights why the VL remains one of the most popular choices for anyone chasing serious horsepower while keeping that unmistakable Aussie look.

Built, Not Bought

What stood out most during the interview was Daniel’s hands-on approach. These aren’t show-only cars — they’re driven, tested, and constantly improved. A motors expert by trade, Mick’s passion shines through in his Camaro. It’s no surprise he’s dropped a big block engine into the car, paired with a Turbo 400 transmission and a 9-inch diff combo. Originally equipped with a small block, Mick felt that wasn’t enough to satisfy his need for speed and power. Over the years, he’s also updated the interior, adding a trim kit with new foam, making the seats more comfortable while giving the interior a sporty look—all while retaining the original seat frames.

On the outside, the front has seen fresh paint, but the rear still boasts its original finish, giving it a unique character. Despite this mix, the Camaro presents beautifully in its vibrant orange, and the 15-inch Centreline wheels complete the car’s classic muscle look. It’s a stunning ride, with plenty of muscle under the hood to back it up.

But that’s not the only car Mick has in his garage.

He’s currently working on a genuine, matching numbers 351 XB Ford Falcon GT—a classic that he plans to flip. This particular XB came to Mick through a friend who couldn’t close the deal, so Mick swooped in a few months later. It’s an extremely rare model—one of only six produced with its specific colour and trim combo. The B2 interior features a fabric and vinyl combination, while the exterior sports a striking Mulberry colour.

Mick’s XB Ford Falcon GT currently rolls on a set of globe wheels, though he’s held onto the original 12-slot wheels to keep it as authentic as possible. He’s still putting the finishing touches on it, but it may already be on the road by now. We can’t wait to see this one fully restored and tearing up the streets.

The variety of cars was incredible. We saw everything from HSVs and HDTs to Torana’s, Falcon coupes, Chargers, WB Utes and tonners, HQ GTS 2-doors, and even a couple of hot rods, among many others.

We managed to snag a few short interviews throughout the night. While we did our best, you’ll notice the footage gets a bit grainy as the sun went down—night shooting isn’t our strong suit just yet!

The highlight of the meet for us was getting to hang out with all of you in person. It was great to catch up face-to-face and check out your amazing rides up close. We had an absolute blast and appreciated all the feedback you gave us.

The body work and paint being done by the last owner, Phil decided to changed out the diff and gearbox for the original m21 and 12 bolt. He left the 308 in it because it is healthy and puts out about 400hp. It has been made to look factory under the hood but it’s got the fruit. The paint colour is Yellow Dolly, it was picked by the first owner when he ordered it from the factory after seeing a XY Ford Falcon GT in Yellow Glow advertised.

The Centerline wheels were replaced with GTS wheels and the stance is low. The interior is part original and part restored with the front seats getting a revamp and a new dash pad was fitted. It is a radio delete car and has not been cut into for a stereo or speakers. All in all, this car is a very original example of what left the factory all those years ago.
