Celebration of Motorsport 2026 Perth – Aussie Garage Explores an Incredible Mix of Cars
The Celebration of Motorsport 2026 in Perth brought together an incredible mix of classic cars, Australian muscle, modern performance vehicles, race cars, rally machines and rare automotive icons.
The Aussie Garage crew headed along to check out the action, explore the displays and get a closer look at some of the standout vehicles.
It was also a big event for us personally, with the new Aussie Garage merchandise trailer making its event debut.
From Holden and Ford classics to HSV, HDT, Valiant, Porsche, McLaren and Japanese performance cars, there was something for almost every type of motoring enthusiast.
Celebration of Motorsport 2026 in Perth
Western Australia has a passionate and incredibly diverse automotive community, and the Celebration of Motorsport puts that diversity on display.
Rather than concentrating on just one era or style of vehicle, the event brings together cars from across the motoring spectrum.
Classic Australian muscle could be found alongside modern supercars, historic race cars, rally cars, Formula Vee racers, JDM performance cars and serious off-road machines.
For Aussie Garage, that makes it exactly the type of event we love covering.
Australian Muscle Cars on Display
Naturally, we spent plenty of time checking out the Australian classics.
There was an impressive selection of Holden, Ford, HSV and HDT vehicles, ranging from beautifully preserved examples through to modified street cars and highly desirable performance models.
One of the highlights was a stunning Ford XY GT, representing one of the most recognisable eras of Australian performance motoring.
There were also classic Holden Toranas, Brock-inspired Commodores and a selection of vehicles representing the history of Holden performance.
These are the types of cars that continue to attract huge interest from Australian enthusiasts, and seeing them together makes events like this well worth attending.
Rare HSV GTS-R W1
Among the modern Australian performance cars was the mighty HSV GTS-R W1.
The W1 sits at the very top end of Australian-built HSV performance cars and has become an extremely desirable modern Australian collectible.
Its aggressive styling and motorsport-inspired engineering make it difficult to walk past without stopping for a closer look.
Alongside the W1 were other HSV and Holden performance models that demonstrated just how diverse the Australian performance-car scene has become.
Brock-Inspired Commodores and HDT Heritage
The influence of Peter Brock and HDT remains incredibly strong within the Australian car community.
At the Celebration of Motorsport, several Commodores reflected that unmistakable Brock and HDT styling.
For enthusiasts who grew up watching Australian touring car racing, these cars immediately bring back memories of one of the most famous periods in Australian motorsport.
The combination of classic Commodore body shapes, distinctive graphics and period-inspired modifications continues to make these vehicles incredibly popular.
VL Calais and Classic Commodores
Another car that caught our attention was a Holden VL Calais.
The VL generation has become increasingly popular among Australian collectors and enthusiasts, with clean examples becoming much harder to find.
Whether factory original, restored or modified, the VL Commodore remains an important part of Australia’s motoring history.
Events like the Celebration of Motorsport provide a great opportunity to see cars from this era alongside much earlier classics and modern performance vehicles.
Valiant Chargers and Mopar Muscle
Holden and Ford weren’t the only Australian favourites represented.
There were also some fantastic Valiant Chargers, giving Mopar fans plenty to check out.
The Charger remains one of the most distinctive Australian muscle cars ever produced. Its shape is instantly recognisable and continues to have a passionate following decades after production ended.
We also came across a Dodge Coronet 440, adding some serious American Mopar flavour to the event.
Seeing Australian Valiants alongside American Dodge muscle provided a great comparison between two different branches of classic Mopar history.
Ford Escort and Classic Fords
Another standout was a classic Ford Escort.
Escorts have a huge motorsport heritage around the world, particularly in rallying and circuit racing.
Their compact size, light weight and enormous modification potential helped make them favourites with racers and enthusiasts alike.
Alongside the Escort were a variety of other classic Fords, making this event particularly interesting for Blue Oval fans.
Porsche, McLaren and European Performance Cars
The Celebration of Motorsport wasn’t limited to Australian classics.
There was also an impressive collection of European performance machinery, including Porsche and McLaren.
Seeing modern high-performance cars alongside historic Australian muscle highlights just how broad the automotive community in Western Australia really is.
You could walk from a classic Holden or Ford straight over to an exotic supercar before finding yourself looking at a purpose-built race car.
Formula Vee and Motorsport Machines
As the name suggests, motorsport plays an important role in the event.
The display included Formula Vee race cars, providing a look at one of the most accessible and long-running forms of circuit racing.
There were also rally cars and other competition vehicles on display.
For enthusiasts interested in more than just street cars, these machines provide another fascinating side to the event.
JDM Legends and Japanese Performance Cars
Japanese performance cars were also represented, adding another dimension to the Celebration of Motorsport.
The popularity of JDM vehicles has exploded over the years, with many Japanese performance models now considered genuine modern classics.
They have developed an enormous following among younger enthusiasts while also attracting collectors who remember these cars when they were new.
Their inclusion alongside Australian classics, European exotics and motorsport vehicles demonstrates just how much the enthusiast scene has evolved.
Rock Crawlers and Off-Road Machines
Not everything at the Celebration of Motorsport was designed for bitumen.
There were also some serious rock crawlers and off-road vehicles to explore.
These purpose-built machines are engineered around suspension travel, traction and the ability to tackle terrain that would stop a conventional four-wheel drive in its tracks.
They provided another completely different form of motorsport and automotive engineering for visitors to check out.
Original and Preserved Classic Cars
While heavily modified cars often attract plenty of attention, there is something special about seeing a beautifully preserved survivor.
The event featured several vehicles that have retained much of their original character.
As classic cars become older, well-preserved examples provide an important connection to what these vehicles were actually like when they were on Australian roads decades ago.
Having restored, modified and preserved cars together makes for a much more interesting show.
Aussie Garage Merchandise Trailer Makes Its Debut
Celebration of Motorsport 2026 was also an important milestone for Aussie Garage.
We debuted our new Aussie Garage merchandise trailer at the event.
The trailer has been developed to give us a dedicated mobile setup that we can take to car shows, cruises, motorsport events and automotive gatherings around Western Australia.
It gives us more room to showcase Aussie Garage merchandise and automotive products while providing a recognisable home base for the team at events.
For us, it represents another step forward as Aussie Garage continues to grow.
If you see the trailer at an upcoming event, make sure you come over and say hello.
