On today’s episode of Aussie Garage, we had the privilege of hanging out with Bruce, a true Mopar enthusiast with an incredible collection of cars and a lifetime of stories. While wrapping up our Summernats 37 trip, we got a hot tip about some Mopar action not far from where I grew up in Canberra’s northern suburbs. Naturally, we couldn’t resist checking it out.
As soon as we arrived, it was clear that Bruce isn’t just passionate about cars—he’s passionate about building. His knack for creating something unique from the ground up is apparent in every vehicle he owns, with his love for Mopar shining through. Let’s dive into his collection, starting with his crown jewels.
1964 Plymouth Sport Fury
First up, Bruce showed us his stunning 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury, finished in a gorgeous Sandalwood paint with matching trim. This car is a true classic with timeless styling that demands attention. Under the hood, it’s powered by a 318 Polly motor paired with an automatic transmission. Sitting on a set of Creager wheels, this car is the epitome of a cool cruiser—ready to turn heads at any car meet or on a casual Sunday drive.
1962 S Series Valiant
Next, we got to see Bruce’s pride and joy, his heavily customized 1962 S Series Valiant. This car has been with him since he was 18 when he bought it from a neighbor. Back then, it was a simple white slant-six with a push-button automatic. But 40 years later, it’s transformed into a masterpiece.
Now, it’s running a 318 worked up to 351 cubic inches, a 904 transmission, and a BorgWarner diff. Finished in striking blue paint with a purple flame job, this car pops from every angle. The customizations don’t stop at the exterior—the interior is a full-on showcase of craftsmanship.
Bruce replaced the original seats with Falcon bucket seats wrapped in leather, installed a killer stereo system, and added a one-piece roof lining and door trims adorned with flames. Even the boot is fully decked out with screens and amps.
Under the hood, the attention to detail is just as impressive. Fiberglass panels and covers create a smooth, clean look, while the flame job continues into the engine bay, seamlessly tying the entire car together. This Valiant is a rolling testament to Bruce’s creativity and passion for customization.
1938 Plymouth Tudor Hot Rod Project
Bruce’s ongoing project is a 1938 Plymouth Tudor, and this one is shaping up to be a beast. Currently about halfway through the build, the car sits on a modified chassis and features a supercharged LS engine, a narrowed rear with a four-link diff setup, and a Jag front end adapted to bolt right in.
The body is undergoing extensive work at Kim’s Fabrications, where it’s receiving new floors, a firewall, sills, and more. Though it’s still in progress, the vision for this hot rod is nothing short of epic. With Bruce’s attention to detail and creativity, we can’t wait to see how it turns out. Follow along with the build on the dedicated Facebook page: Phyllis Plymouth.
Other Gems in the Collection
While Bruce’s Mopar’s steal the show, we also got a glimpse of a couple of his mate’s cars, including a Torana and an EK Holden. The EK, in particular, stands out with its backyard supercharged grey motor—a quirky, innovative touch that’s sure to spark conversations.
A Life Obsessed with Mopar’s
Bruce’s collection isn’t just about the cars—it’s about the stories behind them and a lifelong passion for building, customizing, and driving. Each vehicle is a reflection of his dedication and creativity, from the meticulously restored Valiant to the ambitious Plymouth hot rod project.
Hanging out with Bruce and exploring his collection was a privilege. It’s enthusiasts like him who keep the spirit of classic cars alive and well.
