On today’s episode of Aussie Garage, we take a closer look at what makes Mike’s XB Ford Falcon GS Hardtop so special. For Mike, owning an XB Falcon Hardtop was a lifelong dream, and about a year ago, that dream finally came true when he got his hands on this stunning coupe.
The car had already undergone a full ground-up restoration by a previous owner—a process that Mike has since learned more about after meeting the restorer at a car meet. As far as coupes go, this one was in excellent condition regarding rust, making it a solid base for restoration. Painted in its original Tango Orange, this Falcon stands out in all the right ways, with its striking Globe wheels adding to the car’s aggressive stance.
Being a mechanic, Mike wasted no time in putting his own touches on the car, particularly under the hood. While originally a 302 car, the restoration saw the engine upgraded to a 351 Cleveland. The heart of the beast is a JG33 block from an XA GT, complete with 4V heads, rebuilt to a stock configuration with a standard bore, stock manifolds, and the original-style air cleaner. However, Mike wanted a little extra performance while still maintaining the car’s classic appeal. To achieve this, he added extractors, a lumpy roller cam, and a 650 DP Quick Fuel carb. Before reinstalling the motor, he also took the time to paint it in the correct Cleveland blue, ensuring it looked just as good as it performed. Behind the powerhouse sits a Top Loader gearbox, sending power to a bulletproof 9-inch diff.
Inside the cabin, the car’s original cloth interior has been replaced with vinyl seat covers and matching door trims. Aside from this upgrade, everything else remains true to factory spec, presenting in immaculate condition.

It sounds incredible, cruises smoothly, and has just the right amount of extra punch under the bonnet without losing its classic appeal. With its bold orange paint, tough stance, and meticulous restoration, this car commands attention wherever it goes.
